Proposal of a probabilistic assessment of structural collapse concomitantly subject to earthquake and

Frontiers of Structural and Civil Engineering 2018, Volume 12, Issue 3,   Pages 425-437 doi: 10.1007/s11709-017-0427-5

Abstract:

In recent decades, many public buildings, located in seismic-prone residential areas, had to grapple with abnormal loads against which the structures were unguarded. In this piece of research, an ordinary three dimensional reinforced concrete building is selected as case study. The building is located in an earthquake-prone region; however, it is designed according to seismic building codes. Yet, it is not shielded against abnormal loads, such as blasts. It is assumed that the building suffers a blast load, due to mechanical/thermal installation failure during or after intense seismic oscillations. These two critical incidents are regarded codependent and compatible. So the researchers developed scenarios and tried to assess different probabilities for each scenario and carried out an analysis to ensure if progressive collapse had set in or not. In the first step, two analysis models were used for each scenario; a non-linear dynamic time history analysis and a blast local dynamic analysis. In the second step, having the structural destructions of the first step in view, a pushdown analysis was carried out to determine the severity of progressive collapse and assess building robustness. Finally, the annual probability of structural collapse under simultaneous earthquake and blast loads was estimated and offered.

Strategic Study of CAE 2006, Volume 8, Issue 11,   Pages 57-61

Abstract:

The scientific meanings of safety are analyzed. The concept of “zaishi” is introduced and the fact that it is just the research object of safety science is pointed out. The types of “zaishi” and their relationships are also discussed, based on which the necessity and feasibility of the construction of safety science are expatiated .The connotation of safety science and the basic approach of the construction are analyzed in a new point of view. Finally, the hierarchy of system of safety science and technology is discussed

Damage mode and failure mechanism of starch based API gluelam bonding

Shi Junyou,Xu Wenbiao and Wang Shumin

Strategic Study of CAE 2014, Volume 16, Issue 4,   Pages 40-44

Abstract:

The starch- based aqueous polymer isocycante(API)gluelam bonding as the research object, with tensile shear strength as a key evaluation index, accelerated aging tests on gluelam bonding to study damage mode and failure mechanism of the bonding The results show that:the adhesive fracture properties of ductile fracture structure, and with the increase of aging time, the damage mode of the bonding transforms form cohesion damage mode to the integrated mode of cohesion damage and interface damage. In the early stage of the aging tests, the effect of temperature on the tensile shear strength is more important;however, with the increase of aging time, the effect of humidity on tensile shear strength becomes more important.

Create New Subject of Systematic Engineering Management of Resources—New Type of Management of Engineering

Wu Jisong

Strategic Study of CAE 2004, Volume 6, Issue 8,   Pages 5-11

Abstract:

In recent two decades, systematic science and system engineering received much attention and developed quickly in China. Systematic engineering management of resources(SEMR) is a new branch of interdisciplinary in the field of resources. Facing with the reality of population expansion, environmental pollution, ecological deterioration as well as fast development of technologies both in the world and China, it is necessary to establish the systematic engineering management of resources with a series of new conceptions, with is based on carrying capacity of natural resources, and is different from traditional engineering management which is based on mechanical carrying capacity, in order to deal with the above mentioned problems in an all-round, harmonious and sustainable way. Although immense building like water dam may not appear, systematic engineering management of resources includes comprehensive non-traditional engineering approaches like institution, economy, technology and ecology, and can solve the problems more scientifically. “Beijing water resources management Plan” (BWRMP) in the 21st century is a real example of application of the systematic engineering management of resources.
